Call to Action: Children Soldiers

It’s happening, it’s horrible, its devistating and we cant stop it! There are children soldiers fighting in war, risking their lives for their people. Children soldiers all over the world are being murderd and forced to commit suicide. It is wrong to take children as young as seven to war and keep them in war until they die.

Imagine a child going to war and staying there forever not having a real childhood. A child quoted “I couldn’t take the pain anymore I might just kill myself; most of my friends did it”. The commander forces make them to clear out the land mines by stepping on them, aslo they make them carrying the others weapons, send messages and go on spy missions.

People who make children go to war are sick people who are cowardly and can’t fight for themselves. We can stop this by convincing the other countries not to use child soilders. Do you want and invention that can change the world? Then stop using child soldiers.

Not so Small Arms and Not that Light weapons

Have you ever wanted a weapon, think about how deadly the weapon is first. A lot of people around the world have illegal weapons. More than 4 million people have been killed because of them. No one should have a weapon; weapons are too deadly.

Only the army should have any weapons. They are specially trained to use weapons like an AK47 Assault Rifle. A Grenade Launcher is almost as deadly as a Tank! Some other weapons like a chain gun can rip right through tank and air plane armor in about 2-3 minutes tops (with armor piercing bullets). A missile launcher can and will (if the missile hits) destroy the tank. An AK47 is a common weapon in the army. There are a lot of weapons in the army. I could go on and on about weapons but the point is the weapons are real; not fake.

No one should have a weapon. If you have a weapon, don’t keep the weapon, please donate the weapon to the army. Also you don’t have 5 lives like in Halo or Call of Duty. You have 1 life. Make it last.

Think About Your Education

Have you ever knew a school that had about 275 million kids that has never went to school or they dropped out of school? Well now you know because Africa is one mane country that has 275 million kids that has never went to school or dropped out. It is really sad because you are getting an education that you need and them they just cant go and you can. We need to do something about this because when they grow up and have kids who are going to feed them?

Have you ever thought why the kids don't go to school? Some moms and dads cannot pay the fees that the school makes them pay because if the mom or dad never went to school than how are they going to pay for there kids to go to school. Some moms and dads do not even know how to read or write so they cant get a job so that means no job means no money. There are about 875 million people in Africa that are illiterate that is about 3 times the population of the USA. The teachers are the main reason why kids do not go to school because without them who is going to teach you? There are only 2 million teachers there now but they need 15 million before 2015 that is only 5 more years. The people need help and not one person made a change now how many changes can the whole world do.

When you and other people do something about this the kids will get the education that they need you well be happy and they will be really graceful, because you and the people in the world helped them get what they need so now the can feed their kids. In Salem Middle school we have a club here that helps the kids all over the world to give them clean water so they can drink and there are about 30 kids in there and they are making a change. If 30 kids can make a change how about you?

The Road to Recovery

“Three hundred ninety-three, three hundred ninety-two, three hundred ninety-one…” Those are the numbers of population going down in countries around the world each day when people die from not accessing medicine. Every year, millions of people in the world die of preventable diseases simply because they cannot afford to buy or access medicine to help them survive. These are innocent people who are getting sick and dying every day. Somebody should make a change in how they will be able to access medicine. This global situation needs to stop!

Each day the global population keeps going down due to the many deaths taking place in many countries. Access to medicine poses a critical challenge in many countries: prices are too high and new or adapted medicines and vaccines are not available. With the prices at a high rate these days, a lot of people in the poorest countries can’t afford their medicine. Sometimes they can afford the medicine; there just isn’t enough of it provided. Also, one-third of the world’s population lacks access to essential medicine. That means one out of every three people in the world can’t have medicine. Lastly, many people die and are disabled because they can’t treat their infectious disease. Clearly, medicine should be as easy to access as breathing.

Innocent people die every day when they can’t treat their disease. The government or somebody else should make the medicine less expensive and produce more medicine too. The medicine is too expensive and lacking. Also, you can help by joining an organization like Oxfam, which helps people pay for their medicine. With the road to death coming close to people every day, somebody should make an end to this worldwide problem.

Young Guns

Young Guns

What would you be doing on a regular day? Probably at school doing work. Well these kids in the eastern parts of the world are on a battle field risking their lives for nothing. Kids are currently being used as soldiers, being human mine detectors (going and walking through a battle field walking over mines which are bombs in the ground that explode when you step on them), spies, messengers, and lookouts. The youngest age recorded was seven. I don’t think the kids should be going as soldiers because they are losing their families at young ages and they don’t get enough training.

Within a month some were carrying AK-47s (assault rifles), RPGs, and M-16s. Other kids didn’t even want to go. Girls risk rape and sexual abuse. The kids are never in healthy living conditions and barely get enough food. Some kids are drawing pictures of people killing people, graphic pictures, people doing hard work, and smoking, but the bad part is they are actually doing the bad things.

Soldiers are very important to their country; but people don’t need to get ridiculous about it. Let’s make a law around the world to have a certain age at when you can join like 18. So let’s keep it normal and not like a battlefield.

Child's War

Would you like to be sent to war when your only 8 years old. Well that’s what kids have to put up with that are from 30 countries. Every year 300,000 kids get sent to the army. They should not make kids join the army.

300,000 kids are serving in wars in over 30 different countries. They serve as spies, lookouts, messengers, and they participate in suicide missions. Because of immaturity and lack of experience, more of them die than adult soldiers.

If all of those kids join the army a lot of them will be killed. The government should intervene: they should pass a law: for child soldiers.

Destruction Of Forests

''Look''! there it is again another building is being constructed. Every time you see a building forests have been destroyed. I think we should stop destroying forests.

Did you know that fifty six percent of forests have already been destroyed, so there is only forty four percent of forest left in the world? This is important to us because it helps regulate the planets weathering cycle. The rate of forest loss in Mexico is six hundred thousand to two million acres per year. This will affect humans because, Tropical forests “The lungs of earth” are gigantic carbon stores when they are destroyed massive amounts of carbon is released into the atmosphere. Forest covered about a quarter of the earth’s surface but now it is reduced by twenty to fifty percent. It will impact humans because we will lose massive animal species that only lived in forests.

Today is the day that we stop destroying forest. So something all of us can do to save forests are stop destroying forest. Another thing we can do is if you go to a forest and eat food don’t leave your trash there because if the animals eat the trash they could get sick. So let’s act now before it’s too late.

"Thirst" Is Taking Over

13, 14, 15… they're gone. Every 15 seconds a child dies from drinking water that is dirty or they just don’t have any access to water at all. While we can get a clean drink of water when ever we want, there are people who either have no water or have filthy water that can possibly kill them. I think people and places with sanitary water need to start helping others in need for clean water before the “impact” gets around to everyone.

In 2025, 2/3 of the world might be impacted by bad water which could lead to fighting over water supplies. As the population grows, demands for water go up and pollution levels will rise while more water will be needed to feed and nourish the huge amount of people. Some warn that the world population will increase by six billion in 2000 and by 2015 there will be an increase in people by seven billion. By 2025 the population will rise by 7.8 billion, which could lead to not enough water supplies. But right now water loss is mostly in Africa and Asia and around 2 to 5 million people die each year because of contaminated water. In Dayton, Minnesota, my old school, raised over $7,000 in a week to build a well in Africa. If that school could raise that much in a week then it would not be to much harder to raise more.

If people who have water start helping now by making the dirty water in our world clean then maybe the “impact” won’t get around in 2025.To help out, people can donate money to funds such as the “African Well Fund”. This fund has been able to make wells all over Africa because people have donated money. Just a little can make a huge difference, So how will you lend a hand to change this problem? 13, 14, 15… they're still here.

Desperate Times

Daniel westgard

Children are being killed by the hundreds in Africa. Is this right? Child soiders are being trained to kill people like their own family. Children are going up against me how combat experience has. The kids do what the grownups say and they are murdering helpless people!

More children get kidnapped into militia is that desperate for soldiers they take harmless children a make them cold blooded killers. Children are dying off fast we have to do something or its going to get worst other countries may start this child corruption campaign. The men expect the children to do the dirty work like kill their family to become a man or steal something for the gang or kill ten old men and they can sit back and relax its like walking into death that’s wrong then after the children are all dead they take more. It’s not fair to the children to half to go thru that. In my opinion it’s not helping anything it doesn’t serve a purpose at all.

It’s pretty sad knowing children have to go thru that killing men and women. What would you do if you had to kill your mom or dad? The children are dying for noting but they people in Africa are suffering we can help this by send soldiers overseas to stop the militia and return the children to whatever family they have left that’s what we can do to stop this child corruption.

The Children Of Death

An average of 300,000 boys and girls fight in wars every year. While children in the United States go to school and have fun in other countries such as Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East region train their boys and girls to fight in war. We must stop this now before they alldie out.

Children don’t just fight; some are raped and murdered as a result of being child solider. These children severe in all aspects of the war. They have AK-47s that they use on the front lines of conflicts. They are used as human mine shields, and used as spies and to carry supplies. These are just a few of their duties. Because they are children they are more immature than their adult counterparts and have a much higher rate of casualties. From the global report on child soldiers 2001, “The use of children as soldiers is global issue requiring a global response.” In 87 countries children are recruited into government armed forces, paramilitaries, civil militias and non-state armed groups.
Think about it: do you want this to continue?

I think it is horrible how these kids are used and abused. People need to speak up and make more people aware of this situation, and force the untied nation’s Security Council to impose sanctions, or trade resonations on the governments and and armed groups that use child soldiers. If this counties what will be the future of those countries especially their children when are dying in large numbers? Think about it: you’re in Call of Duty Four but your ten. That is happening in so many countries around the world. Stop the madness now.

Landmines

Landmines Boom! There goes another landmine. 26 thousand people die a year from landmines and 8 thousand to 10 thousand of those victims are children. It’s kind of scary because there could be a land mine under your feet right now. The side effects of a landmine are probably death or ringing in your ears for a long time. There are 60 to 70 million landmines around that can kill you so watch where you step. At least 75 % of landmine deaths are people. Hopefully you aren’t going to be part of the of the deaths happening right now.

Child Devils

Brainwashed children

Did you know in 37 different countries around the world children are being used in wars? Yes, they are called child soldiers. They get taken from their homes and go straight to war. This is affecting adults because their children get taken and the adults cannot do a thing about it. My opinion is they should stop using child soldiers because it causes children to die at a faster rate.
300,000 children are now at war and many lives have already been lost. More children die in those wars than adults because of immaturity and lack of experience. Children that are 12 and younger are forced to go to war. They are trained to kill they would even hurt their family if they had to. In Asia they use girl and boy child soldiers, approximately 32 girls die each day. The generals give kids drugs and alcohol to be brave and not scared in the wars.
I think they should stop using child soldiers. People could stop letting their kids be in wars. Teddy Roosevelt once said “Violence solves nothing”, and I think we could learn from that.

Giant Awful Playground For Kids

If you’re a kid that loves playing video games about war. That one day you actually could do that for a living. Thing again, because millions of kids are being taken from their friends and homes. Put into trucks, and driven to a camp to train for war and action that lies ahead. It’s a terrible and awful that’s consuming our planet.

Here are few examples about the kids who have gone through this awful nightmare. Many kids wrote diaries when they were off duty in the war. Here’s a diary entry from a kid who was almost taken. “I was just playing my friends when a bunch of thugs and strangers took sand threw us in a big army truck. Our neighbor saw and told my mother. My mother told my uncle who a police officer at the time. My uncle talked to the commander and was sent free." Children between 7 to 18 are taken No younger or older. That’s awful because many kids don’t get to have a life. They’ll never really be able to enjoy life as a kid. Child soldiers are trained to kill civilians, burn down buildings, and other dangerous things. Also, they are bomb testers, used to scout areas, or to just fight out a situation instead of the adults.

Again, it’s mean, wrong, and cruel to do to just take away kids from there knowing there won’t come back. To stop this you can write papers and opinions on it, send letters, anything to make a difference. Today millions of kids literally do not have a life. This war that poisoning our young is consuming the Earth and getting bigger by the day. Just like a flea to skin, You can never get rid of them.

Feared Children

Child Soldiers

“Hey son could you give me a hand with that sniper over there”. That is what most fathers would ask their son or daughter during a battle in Africa. Why would they ask that African soldiers are so desperate for reinforcements that they call in there own sons and daughters. Now to me that is just plain wrong.

Down in Africa Militia troops are very needy for help. So, they call in there children as reinforcements. They are putting their child’s life at a big risk. They are mostly used for guards and mine sweepers. I do not know why but they are armed with M-16 rifles, Ak-47 assault rifles, and pistol handguns. Also the amount of children dying in 1 year has tripled. In battles, up to 1000’s of kids are killed a year. If they keep that up the population of children and adults are going to soon go to maybe go down to a couple 1000 or so.

Child Soldiers are just unacceptable for kids of all ages, because how would you feel if your 11 year old child came home in a coffin and the engraving said that he or she was killed by a mine. I think that someone should try stopping this by going to Africa to speak to who ever is in charge of there village or town and tell them to just stop child soldiers now! So get up and help make a difference!

Attack of the Aids

Did you know that in 1980, 225,000 people died from aids? In total, 60 million people died from aids so far. Scientists predict that from 2000 to 2020, 68 billion people will prematurely die from a result of aids. In 2001, it claimed an estimated 3 million lives. I think it feels like being charred alive. In my opinion, I think people should work toward healthier lives.

I also think this is one of the reasons triggering the aids. In the Reauthorization Act of 2008, President Obama agreed to add $50 billion over 5 years for the HIV health funds. Aids are claimed to be the #1 death for women of a reproductive age in the entire world. This is probably because they are the women who are staying the unhealthiest. The CDC currently reported that 3% to 5% of the residents in Washington, DC are infected with aids. Today, people are being very careless about spreading diseases around the world. Which comes back to women being the unhealthiest. They don’t do anything to help out their bodies and then they spread it to the people around them. 75% of the people in America claimed they would never get a disease, (if any type) but caught it anyways.

I think people need to eat healthy, make the right choices, and stop doing drugs. Ways people can try this are setting their own goals for a healthier life. Or they could go to rehab for being too drunk. I also think people should stay safe. 1 person every 14 seconds is killed every single day. Also, if you do get hurt it will most likely make your aids worse. I know what it feels like to be sick, it hurts. This is all that is needed for a healthier life.

Aids- A disease to the immune system caused by a worse increase of other cancers.

Goodbye Biodiverty

Are we slowly losing Biodiversity? Biodiversity is the helping of preserving animal’s habitats, and their resources. The most common places are rain forest, coral reefs, and forests. Did you ever consider the fact that one hundred thirty seven species disappear a day. Think how many disappear a week? Biodiversity kills all living organisms. I think that we should stop thinking about ourselves and start helping. If we don’t start helping our landforms, could disappear like a wild fire.

We need to stop the destruction of biodiversity because it provides us with almost everything we have. We need to stop the destruction of biodiversity; it gives us spray to keep insects and fungi off of crops, prescription drugs, water, the air we breathe, and all of our food and water. Saving nature helps solve problems yet to be discovered. Biodiversity includes all living things, affects our economy, and our life. Human activity is causing rapid deterioration. We are building new houses everyday. No big deal right? It might not be a big deal to us but to the animals it is. We are destroying their homes and where will they go? Exactly they have nowhere to go. “It’s the forests , the oceans , the coral reefs , the algae , the insects , the animals that make up the living word around us , and which we can’t live without” , Books Yeager said! I agree with him because it’s true we can’t live without nature because it supplies everything we need to live.

I think we should stop destroying our home and start saving it .We need to stop being self-absorbed open our eyes and see what is happening to the landforms we love. We need to stop pretending we don’t see these things and take action. Everybody thinks taking action hard its not. Even if you recycle a plastic bottle you’re taking action. Some other great ways to help are to buy products not tested on animals, buy a reusable water bottle, recycle or buy “green” products. So next time you use a plastic bottle remember to recycle or to reuse.

This Is Not A Joke!!

Daniel Y 1/14/10

Did you know that global warming causing CO2 levels on earth to rise dangerously? Global warming is causing small holes in our Ozone Layer and also causing the planet earth temperature to rise up. I think that we should stop using gas and get more sun light from the sun and use it in solar panels; and stop cutting down trees and forests.

I think we should use more sun light because it helps us not to use more gas, well we can still use gas but not much. Solar panels should be used because it helps use more in hot places in hot places like Hawaii, Africa and Israel with out them we use more gas and that will cause more bad problems. Our trees are very important because if we will keep cutting them down we won’t have any oxygen and than we would all die.so thats why We need to recycle!

You can help by trying not to use a lot of gas and recycle a lot and we can try writing letter to the our government or our president about the global warming issue, the global warming is a problem like a match lighting a paper and it burns; we can do this!

Off To Work?

250 million promises are broken, 250 million hearts are broken, and 250 million families are broken? Millions of kids ages five to seventeen, from Uzbekistan in Asia to the most remote villages in India. Have to go to work so they can give money to their families, instead of going to school. This is a world wide problem that will not just go away, it needs to be prohibited. Everyone can help in even the simplest ways; there is no reason why anyone should not do anything.

There are many reasons why this problem needs to be stopped. One reason is that the children have to work, they have no choice. The children do not decide if they are going to work the parents do. If the children are young they are tied to a loom so they will not run away, even if they are injured. Another reason is the children pass away and after a while it will begin to wipe out entire countries or cultures. Some of these countries are 50 percent in India,61 percent in Asia, 32 percent in Africa, 7 percent in Latin America, and more. Also the children are doing hazardous work that can hurt their social and development skills. 5 percent of children work in industries, but most children work in agriculture and construction, all very precarious jobs. If they live to become adults they would be very frail and unhealthy. Would you like to see generations dissolve because of child labor?

Therefore, this problem needs to be stopped. You can save up money to send to the children in these countries so they can send money to their families. We need to raise awareness about child labor, it certainly will not just go away on its own, and today is the day to help. There are many, many ways to help this problem, go find some. 250million promises restored, 250 million hearts restored, 250 million families restored.

Call to Action Children soilders

Call to action Children soldiers

It’s happening, it’s horrible, and it could be you! There are children soldiers fighting in war, risking their lives for their people. Children soldiers all over the world are being murderd and forced to commit suicide. It is wrong to take children as young as seven to war and keep them in war until they die.

Imagine a little boy/girl dying, what if that child was the one who invents something that could stop wars? A child quoted “I couldn’t take the pain anymore I might just kill myself; most of my friends did it”. The commander forces them to clear out the land mines by stepping on them, carrying the others weapons, send messages and go on spy missions.

People who make children go to war are sick people who are cowardly and can’t fight for themselves. We can stop this by simply just not letting children go to war. Do you want and invention that can change the world? Then stop using child soldiers

Your Worst Nightmare

YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE

“I’m too young to die.” I guess that saying doesn’t apply to children in other countries all over the world. 300, 000 children in over 300 countries fight in wars from ages seven to eighteen in mainly Africa and Asia. If they try to leave they will kill them. I think it’s unfair to involve children in brutal adult wars. They should be going to school and living with their families. In America we have restricted movies like PG 13 and R rated movies, but in Africa it’s like their own kids are in one.

All over the world people use child soldiers and their pathetic excuse is that they are easier to care for since they eat much less than adult soldiers do, so it costs less to feed them. They are also easier to manipulate because they are young and don’t know how to fight so they can easily threaten them. These inexperienced children only train for 2 months, and while many fight on the front line some are used as spies, messengers and even sexual slaves. They often send the youngest to go “clear” the landmines before the rest. Some of the kids taken from their parents in Rebel wars like Africa are so abused and brain washed in training they kill their own families and villages. So clearly killing the families that resist and drugging the kids to make them brave in battle is like trying to make a lamb fight a lion.

300, 000 child soldiers. 300, 000 dead children and 300, 000 families with out kids. It’s not fair to send untrained kids to a suicide battle against adults. So if you want to help kids just like you but poor and helpless you can go to invisiblechildren.com and learn and help the adults and children that are working to save African lives. A few months ago there was a boy found on the frontline of a war in Africa. He had papers in his pocket that showed that he was a 12 year old, sixth grader. As well as a letter from his mom begging him to come home. He had a life, a home and a family before the Rebels took him. And his mom probably doesn’t even know he’s dead.

Bye-Bye biodiversity??

It is funny how people can look at a big issue and convince themselves that it is small. Loss of biodiversity is one of those things. Biodiversity is when there are variety of diffrent species of animals or plants. Biodiversity is being threatened due to many issues such as global warming, deforestation, and pollution. In my opinion we can bring biodiversity back by doing more to help stop all the problems we have caused. Because in the long run these things we are doing to our earth will come back and slap us in the face.

Did you know that one hundred thirty- seven species disappear each day? Which means fifty thousand disappear each year? Because of this, our food chain is being disrupted. We are on the top of that food chain and if one animal is affected everything, and everyone is affected. Another reason why we need biodiversity is because it costs us money to lose it. Without biodiversity the crops we eat and sell would all die. This happened to a farmer who lost millions because all of his crops died. Not only does biodiversity matter money wise, but the animals play a big part in our day to day lives too! For example the honey bee, the bees pollinate the plants and make honey. It sounds like a job that is not a big deal right? But it is. Without them we would not be able to put plants in our medicines that we need. Without biodiversity, life would be as dull as an unsharpened pencil.

In conclusion, we can help these species come back by trying to stop global warming, tearing down habitats and many other things too. To help, try to make people more aware of this big problem. And try your best to save energy! These small things can put us one step closer to ending biodiversity loss.

Landmines Should we Ban them???

It happens every day, even right this minute landmines are killing children and adults in Europe and North Africa. Landmines are bombs in the ground that blow up when you step on them. In 70 countries there are about 60 to 70 million landmines still in the ground. They kill 8,000 to 10,000 children every year. We should stop landmines because they kill humans, children die, and they’re long term effects.

It affects humans because landmines blow off their toes, feet, legs, and hands. Landmines also fire shell fragments into their faces. It affects children because after their injured they face months of recovery. Some children never return to school! Some children that are hit won’t be seen as fit to marry. Many children are killed when hit due to blood loss. Long term effects are a problem because land mines don’t go away unless they’re cleared away. Landmines are still causing death and destruction in Europe and North Africa.

Landmines kill tons of people and should be stopped. The only way to stop landmines is to stop the use of them altogether. If we dont stop landminesthe whole of Europe and North Africa might end in a couple of years. What are YOU doing to help?

Destroy or Protect... The Ocean

Have you ever wondered how life would be without the ocean? If you could not eat fish or you could not swim in the ocean during summer? The ocean covers about 71 percent of the earth’s surface. It is providing food, jobs, and resources for people and habitat for many different animals. It is threatened because of destructive human activity. People should protect the ocean not destroy it.

People do many different things that hurt the ocean. Many oil tanks are crossing world’s oceans. If they sink, oil will get in the water. Many seabirds will get oil in their feathers and they can’t fly anymore. Algae will die and decay and use up all the oxygen, which will cause animals to die. In many places overfishing is happening. People catch too much fish. In a few years some fish that we like to eat may go extinct. Many fisheries catch fish that are not their target. For example dolphins, turtles, and sharks. Often they throw the dead or dying animals back into the sea. Around 8 percent of the total global catch is thrown back into the water. Obviously, the ocean is in danger.

I think that it is time to protect the ocean because it is one of the most important resources people have. To help protect the ocean people could limit the amount of fish they catch each year and which kind of fish. To be sure what you catch people could install a little camera in their nets, to monitor what is being caught. Also they should make the oil tanks more secure so they wouldn’t sink so easily. Think about what you can do to save the ocean. You could throw your trash where it belongs, not on the coast lines of the ocean or raise money and donate to an organization that helps the ocean. Are you ready to save the ocean?

Global Warming says Hello

Every time you sniff the air outside near the highway, you smell something reeking that makes you wonder what chemicals are in it. These chemicals come from cars and may damage the world to cause climate change, and they may even damage you. Fossil fuels are killing the environment and there is a chance for the temperature to change dramatically. Global warming is knocking on your door, so put a stop to it!

Global warming would have tremendous consequences including: Wind spread extinction of plants and animals, sea level rises and floods, impact on agriculture, and increases on severe storms like: hurricanes, cyclones, and typhoons. As the amount grows, the atmosphere instead of going into space traps more heat. This increase is trapped heat in climate, causing bad weather. This natural phenomenon can occur whenever and is unpredictable to even the smartest scientists except they know the latest date, 2030.

So put a stop to it. Try to help because the environment needs you before it’s gone. Respect the environment. It is there so you can live and breathe. You can start by using environmentally friendly hairsprays, cars; you can recycle, and plant trees to help. Join a committee that helps. So you still want to sniff that horrible air? Or say goodbye to global warming?

Fight to Survive little Child Soldiers

A child soldiers is not seen very often because they die very early and fight against the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Kids six to eighteen go to war. I believe they should not use kids as old seven go into war because they are too young.

They are many ways to stop child soldiers. 300,000 children go to war and fight for their countries. Right now there are fifteen countries sending kids into war. Kids go to war because they are sexually abused by their parents and other adults so they get tired of it and decided to go off to war. So they stick an AK-47 or an M-16 in their mouth and released and pulled the trigger and died from the shot. The people who send children into war are idiots because they should not be able to do that to seven year-olds. Another suggestion is to not let children fight at the age of seven or eight fight and there is a 50% chance they will die or live.

Is this acceptable to send kids to kill people. The parents should be worried because there child could die. They are many ways to stop child soldiers. “The best thing to do is not to die, but fight and come ome safely”.

Forest Extermination

You see me everyday. I am a precious system that is among the most threatened on the planet, all because of human actions. Many construction workers and land owners are cutting down trees for no reason. Global forest cover has been reduced 20% since pre- agricultural times. Half of the forests that originally covered 46% of the Earth’s land surface remain. Our forests are giving us food and a roof over our head and at least we can do is protect it and keep a limit on how much wood is being cut down. Many animals and resources that we use are reducing by the minute. The forests are our most valuable ecosystems in the world. As people cut down trees, it is like taking part of our lives away.

Large areas of the forest are being cut down to move a few logs and the heavy machinery used to cut down trees to build roads, and buildings cause major damage. Mining and industrial development are led to direct forest loss due to the clearing of land to establish projects. Plus without trees it could lead to flooding, droughts, soil erosion, and breakup in the ecological balance. The disappearance means the loss of food, homes, buildings, and the survival of our nature.

Many forests are disappearing and we need to do something about it if we want to survive. If you want to help increase the size of the forest, go green by planting more trees, and consider joining a foundation that saves our forests. Trees are our most valuable position and we need to protect it. All of the damage that human action is causing forests that are living just like us to die and it has a home, life just like us so think about it now, do you really want to destroy it?

Vanishing Oceans

What is it about the ocean? Is it the beauty above or the life down below? The sound of the ocean makes you relaxed, and stress just blows away, but sometimes the ocean can get hurt, just like us. Our ocean is being destroyed by our actions. Pollution, fishing nets, buildings, oil, and much more, are hurting the ocean and its marine life. This makes us wonder what we are really doing to the ocean each day. We have to try and protect the ocean, its coasts, and all of its wildlife.

Without the ocean, life wouldn’t exist on earth. Ecosystems are collapsing as marine species are driven towards extinction. Fish, which are disappearing by the minute, provide us with food. We need certain foods to survive, and the ocean provides them, and many more resources we use in everyday life. When over fishing, many marine animals are caught or tangled in nets and can’t go up to get the air that they need. Dolphins and whales are two of the major mammals being tangled in this situation. Over 1000 mammals in nets die each year because we choose to not care about their lives as well as ours. Without them, we lose our research, our entertainment, and in some cases these mammals are very helpful. They have the right to live just like us; life wouldn’t go on the same without these creatures by our side, willing to help. Our coastlines are being turned into a dump, with increasing loads of toxic waste being thrown into the ocean each day. This can cause damage to the water we drink, marine life, the resources we use, and even us. Oil has been found covering every inch of helpless birds along the coast, and when building or riding cars over the beach, turtle nests are crushed, and the small innocent turtles never get to see the ocean that they have longed to see for quite some time. The disappearance of the ocean could mean the loss of many lives, including ours.

All this is happening, and will continue to happen because we choose to do it, which is why we should try our best, more then ever, to help protect the ocean and everything in it. There are many simple ways to help as well. When fishing in the ocean, be careful of how much fish you catch, and what you catch, Join a wildlife saving foundation to be a part of saving the place we call home, and the next time you are about to just throw trash anywhere, think before you act, because that one little piece of trash can cause a lot of damage. The ocean is God’s greatest gift, the least we can do, is protect it. So, what is it about the ocean? Is it the swaying palm trees, the pounding waves, or the fact that you need to help and it needs to start now.

"Ageing into Poverty"

You see elderly people all the time, but do you ever think about what their background is? Lots of older people live in poverty and can’t afford heath care and many of them have valued knowledge about the past. Think about it like this: every time a person dies we lose a piece of our history. I think that we need to help all the old people who live in poverty because, do we really want to lose our past?

In a lot of undeveloped countries elderly people are poor and enter old age already sick and this could lead to death. Some people think once a person can’t work they are worthless and that’s when the old people start losing their rights illegally. By 2020, 1,000 million people aged 60 and over will be living in undeveloped countries. Older woman out numbered older men in 2000, and for every 100 woman there were 83 men worldwide! By 2050, 1 in 5 people will be over 60 years of age. Physical health is the most important thing to old people because they can still work and be considered worthy of living which is wrong because everybody is worthy of living in good health or not. Some women that are widowed may loose their rights to there husband’s property and land. Have you ever wondered about what it would be like if this happened to you? In Eastern and Central Europe is where this mass elderly poverty problem is happening. Losing worth, being sick and have nothing to do about it and being concerned about your physical health because if you’re not healthy you would be called worthless. Just imagine if this happened to one of your loved ones.

We do need to help these people because when they die all of the history they lived is gone forever. Go help the old by helping out at your local retirement homes or send some things to the elderly in poverty through a charity. So the next time you see and elderly person that looks lonely go talk to them because you never know how much that could mean to them. This problem could one day affect you so help before this happens to you.

“World Detention”
Lexie Marks

Six million children are living in extreme and overwhelming poverty. Children between the ages of 5 and 18 face diseases, no school, violence, put in war and sexual abuse. Every single thing that these young kids have to go through is horrible and many people want it to stop including me. If this keeps on happening we won’t have any young and healthy kids left.

Has anyone ever made fun of you because of your color or religion? Lots of people have and its not right. You should have the same right no matter who your parents are, color, gender, language, religion, opinion, and disability, but that’s not happening. Violence is one of the most serious problems today. You would find it at schools, on the streets, and at home. Some violence even leads to death. 40 million children around the world suffer from abuse, neglect, needed health care and social care. Between the ages 12 and 17 there is many sexual abuse problems. Most likely there is a older person than the kid abusing them, so they get hurt. In many cases, they force them to do sexual things. You’ve probably never seen a kid with a deadly weapon, but you could. 300,000 kids have been put in the war around the world. Some of them are even as young as 8. Over 2000 have died as a direct result of kids being armed with weapons. Did you have a mom or dad when you were little or do you have one right now? Many don’t now, so they are doing the wrong things. Things are turning in to a “world detention” as a result of being in conflict with the law. Although the kids are the ones being hurt and are not protected it’s more of the adults fault for not caring and not helping.

Discrimination, violence, sexual abuse, children in armed conflict and lack of protection are all horrible and is now happening everywhere. So next you see a kid on the street or anywhere that is being in any way abused, you should be something like “How can I help?”.

The Reefs

Have you ever thought about someone torturing the colorful and bizarre coral reefs? Well now a day, we are causing this massacre to happen, by doing a lot of things to treat the coral reefs unfairly. I think we should all stop the things we are doing to hurt them.

Coral reefs are dying more and more, day by day, and we are the main creator of this dilemma. Tourists/divers are striking this issue because when people explore the coral by diving off boats they trample and step all over the coral. Not only that, but coral mining is also a factor of this problem because humans are breaking off whale sized pieces of coral and illegally selling it to others, while the coral suffers. Furthermore, fishing with dynamite also serves a big purpose; it’s where people use explosives to kill schools of fish and the chemicals in the pollution cover the reefs with a blanket of poison and the coral then expires. People should stop polluting and start cleaning.

Coral reefs are amazing and beautiful at the same time, and we really need to stop the things that we are doing to help these living creatures. Several others and I are encouraging you to help the reefs, by maybe even starting a blog to persuade others to stop this nightmare. Before we start participating in this disaster, we should think to ourselves, “Should I really do this”?

The Hot Hoax

It was and it sometimes still is all over the news, but is it actually real? What are the facts? Global warming is a big problem, people are scared of the outcome, people are worried about the arctic, all of the animals, and so much more. However it’s just a hot hoax.

Tons of facts show how the “hot menace” doesn’t exist, I’ll give you three. Cycles of warming and cooling have been part of the Earth’s natural climate history for millions of years. There has been global cooling, global warming, the Ice Age, and the dinosaur period, and who knows what that was like. Furthermore, climate dynamics and history of the Earth are extraordinary and complex. Scientists still are unable to explain basic phenomena, like tornadoes, as extreme weather events satisfactorily, even though they’ve been doing intense research for decades. Not to mention that, only one third of scientists if any, question the fact that the Earth is warming up. In the Middle Ages, when the Black Plague struck nobody questioned the strange treatments, thus many people died, plus scientists aren’t considering the fact that in the 1940’s through the 1980’s, when the amount of fossil fuels used increased, the Earth slightly cooled. People should stop worrying and start living.

As you can see the “planet warmer” is just a fraud. Get informed by looking at the facts in history, before you just flat-out listen to the government. There’s global warming and there’s been global cooling, but believe it or not it’s all just the natural cycle of the Earth’s climate.

This Is NO Children's Playground

How would you feel if you were seven years old and were in the middle of a war scene? Many countries around the world are putting their children to war. These children are only seven to eighteen years old. Most kids in the war have no skill in reading, writing, or math; they only focus their thoughts in warfare and what will become of them after the war. They all wonder if they would see their brothers or sisters again, who knows what thoughts are going through their minds at this very moment. My opinion of this worldwide controversy is that these children should not face such responsibility at such a young age.

How would you feel if you were torn away from your family? It’s like ripping part of you heart out and just throwing it away. Kids in the war have no memories to share with their future kids, no moments, and no one to love them. Right now, there are approximately 300,000 children fighting in wars across the world. I fell that this way too many children living the responsibilities of adults. One boy, named Charles, was scared when the guards took him to war. If any of the guards found out that he was scared they would kill on the scene. The guards and children are thought to give no mercy. These children are weighted down with mental and physical pressure, mentally with the responsibility and physically with the heavy armor and guns. I fell that these children should enjoy there life while they are young and live the most of it. Also these mean adults placed the youngest ones closest to the battle, even though they are the most vulnerable.

These children really should not face such gruesome warfare. I believe this job more meant for adults rather than young children. One possible solution to this problem is to join membership with the International Child Welfare Organization and donate money to the cause. The money will help the cause of decreasing the amount of child soldiering. The worldwide epidemic is like slavery all over again.

Climate Change Editoral

*Cough cough*

Devastating storms, endless floods, burning summers, all of this could become a reality if we continue to burden our Earth with smog and CO2. The burning of fossil fuels and other natural resources has taken quite a toll on our fair planet. The gasses being released have created an increase in the greenhouse gasses of our atmosphere, which in turn could trap more heat than normal. The hear energy coming from the sun comes into the atmosphere, and then it bounces back into space. However, the greenhouse gassed present in our atmosphere trap and hold in the heat. With too much of these gasses, more hear will be held in, and could eventually change our climate dramatically. But, we still have some hope that we can stop this. In fact, lots of human related things have been setting this “global warming” into motion. If we continue to use the evildoers called ‘coal and oil power plants,’ these effects could be irreversible. More than 40% of the electricity needs of America are met by coal power plants.

Our planet has been experiencing lots of unwanted effects due to the recent production of CO2. Permafrost has been thawing much sooner, the mid and high latitude growing seasons have been expanding because of less time a year it being cold, and plant and animal habitat ranges have been moving pole ward because of the different temperatures making the species think that the climate that they are in is not the correct temperature. Animal and plant species have been diminishing too, trees are flowering earlier, insects are emerging earlier, and birds have been laying eggs earlier, all because of the increase in temperature. Another thing is that in the next 100 years, the temperature of Earth could raise 2.5 to 10.4 degrees F. This is assuming of course that no major actions are done to prevent it. This is likely however, considering that we’ve known about this for a long time but still nothing has been done. There will also be many agricultural losses from the continuation of this. Different weather patterns and temperatures, water stress, and sea level rise are all factors that shall take a toll on our agriculture. This isn’t just going to affect the plants and animals that share the Earth with us, this is going to affect US more than anything. We depend on lots of things that the Earth provides us with, and now it’s all going away as our planet changes in ways that would have been seen as preposterous if ever mentioned 300 years ago or earlier.

However, we can still stop this occurrence, despite the many effects already happening. Coal and oil power plants are far too abundant. We need to use a more reliable energy source. 40% of all power plants in the USA are coal power plants. We absolutely have to act now. Do anything you can to conserve energy, like turn down the thermostat, turn off light if you aren’t using them, and don’t drive cars everywhere. There are so many things we can be doing to help this worldwide crisis, and yet we still overlook them. What we’re doing today about this situation is sickening. Stop procrastinating to stop procrastinating!

THE WORLD NEEDS TO TAKE SOME PILLS

You hear it on the news; you see it on the T.V. It’s all saying the same thing: “health care crisis in Africa,” or “health care crisis in Pakistan.” In a few years all you will be hearing is “Health Care crisis in America”. Slowly the monster takes lives in places where people are isolated from hospitals or any form of medication. In places like Africa people are dieing in numbers like 11 million a year. They are suffering of easily cured diseases like pneumonia, diarrhea, or the flue. They have no magical shield (vaccine) like us, or even if they do they would most likely not be able to afford it. But I believe that we can help by sending in doctors to work there. We can save millions of lives considering that about 30,000 people are being diagnosed every day.

Have you ever thought of living in poverty? Of course not, you pay you bills on time, you can afford a plasma TV, and if you do run a little low on money you could just sell that red Ferrari out front. That’s not how life is in developing countries like Pakistan. You live with a family of 6 in a little gardening shed, you have no TV, or running water, you either drink out of a hose or from the ground. In places like this you can get diseases from insects, animals of from the food you eat or drink. If you had medication you could save you and your family’s life. In Africa people have no houses and are living in any refuge they can find, whether it’s and abandoned home or a waste sight infested with rats carrying poison and rabbis. If people would give these poor people medication for fever, flu, diarrhea, and food poisoning they could live. Next the people in Afghanistan, all of their supplies like medication are given to the army. They have very few doctors and millions of people dieing every day. These people are fortunate enough to have at least some sort of help, but not enough. Some people are dieing in the lack of clean drinking water or being bit by spiders and other insects. This is what it is like living in poverty, no wonder you never though about it, its disgusting and un-humane, but we can stop it.

I believe that we can help by sending in doctors to work at these developing countries, this can also help bring up the world’s population. You can help by going to GAP. And donating money, they will use the money to supply people in developing countries like the ones you now no about. If the world takes it’s pills, this disease will retreat.

Water Crisis

Did you know that most poverty-affected Africans and Asians only live on as much water as a 90 second shower in their lifetime? After hearing that you should be glad for all the clean, fresh water you have because the only water the poor Africans and Asians have to drink is muddy and infected. This also causes lack of sanitation, and both of these issues combined cause thousands of deaths each year, but still those people still have to risk their lives to drink that water. If people have to risk their lives to drink that water I personally think they also deserve the water that we Americans drink since they are the ones who risk death to drink water that nobody would ever want to drink.

If you still don’t support my opinion, this fact will probably change your mind; one billion people lack access to clean water; a sad but true fact. People in poverty all over the world don’t have access to clean, safe water, but instead forced to instead drink the vile, disease-contaminated water which kills more than 30,000 people each day. Because of this issue, most Africans don’t even reach the age of 5. If they choose not to risk their lives for that water, they will die of thirst within a week. The world is also running out of water. By 2025 two out of three people will be living with water shortages and according to my calculations by around 2040-2050 only the wealthiest people will have water, if any at all. If we don’t change our ways, that is going to be the foreseeable outcome which will affect everybody alike, and possibly even extinction of the human race and many other animals/plants also. Along with those two issues, 2.2 million people die each year from lack of sanitation and water-related diseases, one for every fifteen seconds. If they had clean water like us they wouldn’t have to worry about sanitation problems and disease as much.

As you can probably tell by the numbers that is around 2 billion people suffering as you read this just because they don’t have access to clean water. Sad, isn’t it? If you want to conquer this issue you can take simple measures, such as shortening your showers, not leaving faucets running or dripping, and only use ice when you need it. You can also donate to organizations that help this issue, such as WaterAid, or you can invent ways to help those people and get everyone else to save water. So, go out and help save some lives; they need your help.

Dangerous Playgrounds

Imagine you in your comfortable house watching TV on your leather sofa, and then suddenly, armed soldiers break down your door and take you away for war. In over thirty countries kids as young as seven are forced out of their homes to go to war. These children are missing out on their education, and are also beaten up and even killed every day. Although these children may be learning something, they are not learning their every day subjects. Child soldiers should be banned at once because millions of those kids don’t live up to be twenty, and fulfill their dreams.

Child soldiers are suffering every day, and are doing things that shouldn’t be done. “The judge marked guilty sign on an eleven year-olds girls head when she was caught pretending to be a spy to get out of war; they told me to shoot her, I hesitated… Then I did. That said it proved my loyalty, but to me it didn’t mean anything” Says a seventeen year–old soldier. These things shouldn’t be done to kids. Further more 300,000 under the age of 18 are fighting frontline as soldiers with government armed forces on opposite groups in more than thirty countries. This issue is a big problem and should be handled carefully, but quickly since half of the kids are dying each day. Also others are supposed to go to school are used as spies, messengers, and even someone’s own servant.

Child soldiers are wrong and horrifying, these children have their minds focused on protecting their country and are forgetting about protecting themselves. Although there things you can do to stop it. Such as: Write a letter to the government about child abuse rights, start an organization to help, and encourage your government to monitor the situation to help them. School may be a child’s key to success, but for children at war there isn’t a key to anything but death.

Hows This for Recess

What would you do if you where abused every time you did some thing wrong? What would you do if you didn’t now any thing work? One in every six children in Asia is in child labor. That’s over 246 million children being forced to do hazardous things toward their health. Many children in the world are suffering backbreaking job, and being sold b I think their own parents. This cruelty should stop due too the fact that many kids are being FORCED to do these things.

Child labor consists of many different jobs and cruelty. One example of child labor is a farmer who tied a young boy to a loom after he was done working. He did this so the boy would not run away. Many children are being mistreated like this, some children may even be doing thing even worse, thing against the law like stealing money, and some children are being sold as prostitutes. Forcing children to do these things is not only against the law for human rights, but is also very cruel to the children. Many children who are forced to participate in these in child labor, have less education than most kids, or no education what so ever This can effect their safety, health, economic opportunity, and even full enjoyment of human rights.

Forcing children to do these things is very inhumane. So their have been many organizations created to help these children. One organization is called Global march Against Child Labor. This organization not only helps children in the USA, but children all over the globe. 246 million innocent children are breaking the law and their backs doing hazardous jobs. At this rate, many hundreds of thousands of children will never no any anything but do this or do that, and will never have any memories of a happy child hood.

Trapped in Poverty

Did you know that millions of children die of poverty every year? Children are abused every day, because of undeveloped economies. I think that poverty is a nightmare, and must be stopped, because it kills many innocent kids every day that are not capable to do anything about it. It does not allow young minds to reach their full potential.

What would you do, if you where a kid tangled in the middle of one great big poverty? Within the past years there has been a rapid and increasing amount of children that have been affected by the many conflicts over money, food, and life. Incidents have happened where poverty has gotten out of control and with devastating result of bombings, which have brutally killed, many separating families for life, and making a percentage of 45% of the victim’s children. Also an estimate of six million kids are living under extreme poverty , like having to fight for food , or against diseases without any medical attention, dying because of unsafe drinking water, and sleeping out in the extremely deadly cold temperature conditions, wearing only rags at the most. Millions of children are forced to do harmful and explosive work, are sexually abused, and are used for trafficking. This means that people are being sold, abused, and are not treated as a civilized, and live human.

Children all over the world are affected by poverty, and uncountable numbers, and uncountable amounts have died for this reason. Hundreds of volunteers are already raising money, and donating items to help improve the unfortunate situation, and anybody who is willing could be a part of this great effort to help as well. Uncountable amounts of people just like you and me die of starvation, illness, and because of conflict every year, and cannot do one thing about it, so next time you throw something away, or buy something that you don’t really know if you need, ask yourself if that really is right thing to do, when some people out there really need help.

Coral Reef Disaster

This is Ivy C's editorial for coral reefs

Coral Reef Disaster
How can we save them?

Coral reefs are the beautiful rainbow beads in the bead collection box that is placed carefully on Mother Nature’s night stand. People are very dependent on coral reefs, but they don’t realize that and because of the actions of humans, they are being destroyed. So we should help stop the destruction of these marvelous plants.

These reefs act as a barrier to protect land form tropical storms, the storms can wash away sand from beaches. But luckily, the reefs are there to prevent that from happening. Urban development has increased and trees are being cut down, so the sand, dirt, and many other types of sediment are washing onto the coral reefs, dirtying the water. They are also home to one fourth of all the fish in the world, and some of these fish can not be found anywhere else. Fishing with dynamite is very dangerous to coral reefs, for the dynamite can blast reefs apart. Forty percent of all coral reefs have already been wiped out, scientists predict that up to twenty percent more will disappear in twenty years of we don’t stop hurting them. If we manage to help the reefs, then the next generation of people will be able to see them. Pollution and dumping sewage into the ocean is another factor adding up the list of things to stop on order to save the reefs.

It may not seem like it, but coral reefs are very important to humans for survival, and so we must not let them go extinct. Some ways to help are to stop littering, volunteer to help clean up parks and beaches, conserve energy, and don’t waste. Mother Nature only has a few beads left, but if we help her, than maybe she will be able to collect more.

Childhood is No Time For Fun

Would you have liked it if your whole childhood was just working and never have time to play? I am sure all of the people who answer this question would answer it with a no but some kids in this world don’t have a choice. In Asia, Latin America, and Africa 250 children between the ages of five through fourteen already work. At least 120 of them work for full time and can’t go home or go to school. These jobs hurt them physically and mentally. I think that child labor should be stopped immediately because kids are not meant to do work when they are young. They’re supposed to learn, go to school, and play.

It is not fair for children to work full time or to even work at all because they can’t go to school and get an education for the future. Education helps them by improving there health, safety, and will be able to work and get money when older. School is a big part in life and these children can’t even go. The types of jobs the kids are being forced to do is like cruelty, they are being used for drug trafficking, sale and trafficking, forced to fight (Military) and a lot more horrible jobs. All of these jobs harm there health, safety, and morals. They don’t even get to go home because they work so much or either work full time. They need their family and need love. There parents visit them only twice a week which isn’t really a lot of time to spend time with them.

All of those things hurt them and will reflect them in there future so it should be stopped, there are really no positive sides to it. If you think this is unfair for children and you live in the United States you should check the labels on the product you are going to buy before getting it and see if the country that made it uses child labor, if it does then don’t buy it that way they will stop this. As Sultana, a twelve-year garment factory worker from Bangladesh, Thailand says, "Why do we have to pay the price of poverty? We didn't create poverty, adults did."

Stefany R.

Children in Labor

Think about it, you hear it blaring on the news all the time and you think to yourself “Oh gosh, that’s horrible…” Well, obviously, you haven’t heard the whole story. Everyday, millions of children are forced into labor in many different areas just so they can provide enough food for their families to eat, many areas of which are very harmful and hazardous to kids under the age. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s just terrible! Nobody should have to suffer this. Yet, people sit around ungrateful for what they have and think nothing of it. To where these kids, who have to work for food, appreciate that they can get a job and earn extra pocket money. They appreciate, they understand.

Most Americans don’t take what they have; they want more, and more. We Americans are lucky, though. We have doctors and nurses who treat our sicknesses or injured bodies. But the children who work their fingers to the bone always injure their bodies and also increase the chance of dieing. Still, they have no medical help whatsoever. Sure, they may have band-aids, but that doesn’t exactly count. Child labor also causes results of four year old children being tied to rug looms to keep them from running away and to seventeen year olds helping on a farm instead of being in school getting an education. So those seventeen year olds will never get a good paying job to help their families survive. Child labor can also pull children away from other children and their families because they’re always kept so busy. One little girl is in child labor and only had her parents visit her twice! She also lives with five other families, yet they never talk to her. How would you like it if no one talked to you just because you have to do labor?

This is why child labor is so wrong to me. Children need to be outside having fun with friends not doing labor. The least you could do is respect a child you know who is in child labor, let them know that they’re worth it or you could donate a little money to the children to help them get out of this dilemma. Child Labor is a cruel situation to be in, so people should think twice about forcing children into labor.

Heaven H.

Child Soldiers

How would you feel if you were taken away from your parents and forced to fight in the front lines of war, and what if you don’t survive? 300,000 children in more than 30 countries worldwide have became child soldiers and right now, many of them are fighting to the death in war. Child soldiering is cruel, inhumane, and must be stopped.

Child soldiering is catastrophic in many ways. Because of immaturity and lack of experience, many more child soldiers are having fatalities than adult soldiers. Also, they are forcibly taken away from their parents and are forced to experience the horrible and disgusting sights of battle. These kids will only have a few years of childhood to remember when they grow up and will miss important events in their life, like birthdays. So, is this really necessary?

Child soldiering will stop a youth’s life at a young age and if the young soldiers survive fighting, they will not get jobs because lack of education. To help prevent this wrong doing, you can start a website or blog to inform others how wrong it is. Child soldiering is like a nightmare in reality.

Brian M.

Gun Toting Tots

Think about your child, now think about them armed and going to war. All over the world, children are forced to go to war and are physically abused. Forcing kids to go to war is against human rights and kids shouldn’t suffer the horror of war. Even if children want to go, they are not mentally mature and/or physically fit enough for combat.

Over 300,000 children are in the armed forces and are often recruited by rebellion armies. A lot of children are committing suicide, due to the intense circumstances out in the battle field. Their leaders also abuse them and force them to do horrible things like clearing landmines and kill their own family. In addition, kids are drugged with stuff like cocaine to make them more alert and feel less pain. They are taught to kill without mercy and have complete loyalty to their commander. Not only do they make them do atrocious things, but they treat them like paper; cheap and expendable. Most children who joined an army are often kidnapped and taken to training camps far away against their own will. If they resisted, they would be beaten. Some join willingly due to poverty, alienation, and/or discrimination.

A young tot in war is just wrong and kids should not experience the abuse of cruel leaders and bear the burden of war, whether they want to or not. There are many groups against child soldering, like “The Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers” and you can support them or you can encourage your government to do something about it. Whether it’s the 100 year war or a short battle, kids are definitely not meant for armed conflict.

Medicines in Africa: Dream or Reality?

Getting sick is probably not a big deal for you. But for other poor, defenseless people it is their worst nightmare. More than one million people each year die because of one, simple, undeniable reason, they don’t have enough money do buy medicine for their sick relative. Words alone cannot say how say how sad it is to see a family member die only because of something that could be prevented. It is not worth to lose so many people just because of financial blow. It can leave an undeniable scar in the memory of the family member. We the people should do something about it.

Have you ever watched the news? If you do, you will see that many people are dying just because of them not having enough money to buy the needed medicine. Also, many treatable diseases are neglected these days, so scientists do not worry, so they do not make the needed medicine in time even if they have enough money to buy it. Many of these deaths are also premature deaths that are caused by these diseases. Not enough people are helping to allow the people in need to get enough money in time to save the live of the one in need. Death by money. How does that make you feel? Isn’t obvious already?

Millions and millions of people are dying each day just because of the lack of money. It is not humane! So what can you do to help?

It’s not that hard to donate a couple of dollars to a society that helps these sad people, so why don’t you do that? Also, do not waste medicine. It makes the company which makes the medicine make more for no reason which wastes time. Give some non-prescription medicine to charity; they will give it to someone who needs it.

So yes, there are many ways to help the people in places like Africa and Asia, yes, there are easy ways to help them, and yes, they will appreciate it. So is it good to help the millions of persons in need? My final answer is…yes.

Gun Wielding Mini Soldiers

Ever heard of child soldiering? It’s when they give a kid an AK or an M-16 and send them out to fight. Countries like Africa, Asia, Latin America, and a lot more use kids as soldiers. Over 300,000 kids are fighting in wars they aren’t even old enough to understand. These kids shouldn’t be fighting. They get pulled away from their lives to go and fight. This isn’t right. Kids and wars just don’t go together.

Kids are sent to war every day .There are over 120,000 kids under the age of sixteen that are fighting in these wars. Over 300,000 kids total from more than forty countries put there lives on the lines every day. The kids are given drugs and alcohol by their superiors and are allowed to get drunk and high, and then are sent into battle. They are sexually and physically abused and many of them commit suicide. A seventeen year old was abducted three years ago. He was put through basic training and sent to the army. Another girl was beaten for dropping a bucket of water while trying to take cover.

Sending these kids instead of adults is not the right thing to do. To try to end child soldiering join a group that aims to stop it. Some forty years ago Martin Luther King Jr. said “I have a dream” and it was to end segregation. Now I have a dream to end child soldiering.

Child Soldiers

Child Soldiers

Children as young as eight can be subject to deadly warfare and abuse. Armed forces are using 15-18 year old kids for war. They are used as human mine detectors, cheap and expendable soldiers, and many other things. Over 300,000 children are being used for war right now. Child soldiering is a cruel treatment to children and must be stopped.

Children are forced into armed conflict by force, poverty, discrimination, and restriction from human rights. Drugs and alcohol are also used to achieve this goal. This mistreatment leads to suicide and murder among individuals. Children are used because of their fearless killing and unthinkable obedience. These underage warriors are shot, wounded, or even killed every day.

Child soldiering is bad and should be put to an end. You can help halt this Atrocity by raising money to donate to education program so kids can afford school and prepare for a better future. This will help lower child recruit numbers. If we put a stop to child soldiering many children could live to see another day.

The Environment

Are you worried about the development of the Earth? In places all around the world pressure has rapidly been increasing on the environment. Why? The answer is humans. They are causing things like deforestation, global warming, and polluting the ocean; all these things are all bad for the environment and should be stopped.

Furthermore, millions of people around the world depend on plant and animal species for survival. There will not be much food left on Earth if we don’t try to stop things like our land for growing crops from turning in to deserts. Oceans around the world are constantly being polluted and have been wiping out the population of many living sea creatures, like fish, seals, and especially whales. Coral reefs which are very important to the ecosystem are getting destroyed as well as the sea.

If we don’t do something about this hazardous situation soon it will hurt the future. Little things we can all do to help will make a big difference. Things like recycling, using CFL light bulbs, cleaning highways, composting, and reusing things could help the earth a lot. The Earth being hurt so much is like a disease, but if we all help, hopefully one day we will find a cure.

Young Blood

Think about a mother who loves their child more than anything; now think about how that child is fighting a war. 300,000 estimated children 18 years and younger are known as a child solider. Most of them have never attended or even started school. These children are taken from family and sent to die in the front lines of a war. With no education no support just their weapon and their untaught minds. This idea for most people is cruel and sick, for one I agree.

Children soldiers are mostly founded in Asian and African countries. These children though aren’t always forced to become one. Some leave school to go and work to provide for their families. The governments of these countries see this as an easy opportunity to gain new soldiers. So these governments sponsor child soldering. But a lot of children especially girls don’t want to fight and then sometimes forced to. Most child soldiers are from 7-14 years of age when they start and fight for 2-3 years estimated. These kids are then given equipment and are sent to war. Many children use the ak-47 a soviet union made assault rifle, the most bought assault rifle and almost gun in the world. This gun has recoil that can cause you to throw out your arm making it very painful to shoot at a young age like this. Some children use (very little) the M-16 a U.S assault rifle that was built not to have recoiled. This gun though is only sold to the U.S army and has to be found by a dead solider to use. Thus making it not likely to use.

I believe this is wrong and should immediately stop. Now a day’s countries have started donations and fundraisers to help prevent this act. They also have made websites sent people down to help and also sent letters to the children giving support. These kids need this money for mostly they join to provide for their families. So think about would you go to war if your family was dying in front of you.

The Environment

You’ve heard all about pollution, seen the dead, broken animals at the side of the road, and our constant taking of trees and forests, but have you ever thought that the more trees we take down for our need, the more homes of animals we destroy? When people build houses or buildings they chop down trees and wood for land. All this is very cruel to the lives of many animals that live in the forests that provide them food, shelter, and everything they need, who have to find a new cover of shelter every time we take down their homes. In addition to this there is still more horrifying facts about our environment problem.

As you can see all around you now, trees are being cut down to create land for our now over populating urbanization. Before our sudden growth in population, forests covered 46% of the Earth’s surface, rainforests, 4%. Now both have decreased by twice their original size. Also as we kill trees, we are spearing animals by taking away all their needs and speeding up their extinction rate by almost 1000 times with 137 species dying out almost everyday. Pollution has clouded up our world with factories pumping out intoxicating gases even more now that the trees that used to filter our air clean aren’t there anymore. This pollution could kill many things and animals such as polar bears as they die from global warming. However, there are many ways to solve our fiasco.

The environment is really going to take a trip to the dumps if we don’t try and stop it. There are many organizations and programs in order to help the environment. You can start by saving resources and recycling, doing some local planting, or joining fundraisers. IT’S TIME TO WAKE UP PEOPLE!! Start noticing that our green surroundings are disappearing!!! I’ve heard all about pollution, seen the dead, broken animals at the side of the road, and our constant taking of trees and wood. It’s time to make a change!

The Global Water Crisis:The Contaminated Truth

Over one billion people lack safe water.
Over two billion people lack sanitation.
Over two million people die from water-related diseases.
Now ask yourself, is this really necessary?

Currently, there are over one billion people who don’t have access to clean water. Clean water is very difficult to get in places like Africa and Asia, so they don’t have a choice in what they drink. At this rate, two out of every third person will be living with no water by 2025. And I say that these people should have clean water just like everybody else. Unsanitary water is contaminated and disgusting. People globally should start doing something about this.

If you were in charge of the world, would you let these people suffer from this? I wouldn’t let these people endure over something so minor to us but so major to them. One billion people have absolutely no access to clean water. Two million die over this and most of the people are children. These people hardly have any water, its equivalent to a ninety second shower. Now, you can see why these people need more clean water. Still not convinced? Well, a lot of people have no choice but to drink the water, like your parents forcing you to eat vegetables. They fully know that the water is hazardous and that it is totally unsafe to drink from it. Furthermore, the contaminated water happens globally, and related diseases are the largest cause of sickness and death. For example, every fifteen seconds, a child dies. The water they drink from is contaminated because it’s polluted by industries and agriculture, and this travels all the way to Africa and Asia. The poor usually drink from it first. It causes illnesses and death because it contains bacteria and parasites causing diarrhea. Also, there are water-based hosts, like guinea worms, which can feed off of you. Now can you see why this must stop immediately? If I were in charge of the world, what would I do? I’d do something to stop this global crisis.

Water is an essential element in everybody’s life, so these people need the water just as much as we do. There are already organizations that help these people in need, and we should support them by donating water. Even the smallest amount could make a huge difference in the world and make the child in need smile from the heart. You could start a fundraiser of you own and help these victims. And if you can’t do either, you could at least stop polluting the water. Remember, providing little could help stop the diseases, the melancholy people feel and stop them from drinking from that contaminated water. You could teach the importance of washing hands, to reduce the spread of germs. You can make a difference, so why not do it now?

Over one billion people lack safe water.
Over two billion people lack sanitation.
Over two million people die from water-related diseases.
It’s time to make a change.

Climate Change and Global Warming

What would happen if the icecap were to melt altogether? What would you do and what would happen? Climate change is affecting the environment little by little everyday. Increasing the temperature by 10 to 100 times fastest warming in the past 10,000 years. As the climate goes up plants and animals will vanish and more disasters are more likely to happen. We should stop global warming. We cannot stop it 100% but at with some effort we can decrease global warming. Climate change is a big effect to the earth.

Global warming could also threat our health. We breathe the gas trapped in the atmosphere. Since our earth is getting warmer, disease carrying insects and animals cover bigger regions. Global warming and climate change could get even worse. The temperature could increase 2.5 F to 10.4 F. Although global warming and climate change can be stopped, the climate will not be balanced. The gas that is released traps in the atmosphere causing it to stay for years or even centuries. Disasters are more likely to occur because of the rising temperature. Hurricanes and typhoons have higher chances of happening and so does flooding. Sea-ice is decreasing and sea level can go up.

Everyday things that we use like a car releases carbon dioxide to the atmosphere which can effect to global warming .Try to walk instead of riding a car at necessary times to help decrease the amount of gas. Think about global warming before doing anything to increase the climate change. Scientists say that human activities are contributing to global warming by adding most of the gasses. As Joe Biden says “I think it is manmade. I think clearly manmade. If you don’t understand what the cause is, it’s virtually impossible to come up with a solution. We know what the cause is. The cause is manmade. That’s the cause. That’s why the polar icecap is melting.” So let’s act now and stop global warming, before things could get a lot worse.

It's No Game

Most of us played with toy guns when we were young, but for few it’s no game. Everyday these children wield real guns, fight in the front lines of attack, and hope to survive another day. Children from the age of seven to eighteen are going to war. Most of kids are being taken away with no say; others have chosen to go because of poverty. These young warriors hold the responsibilities of adult soldiers in warfare. Children this age should instead be getting an education and to not be treated like a real soldier, being spies or human mine detectors is ghastly.
Kids as young as seven are joining armies in over thirty different countries, hardly knowing the risks they could potentially face. The possibilities of being captured, wounded, or killed are high, because they are being used as spies, messengers, lookouts, human mine detectors, in suicide missions, or just carrying supplies. “I didn’t want to join; they just took me away from my family after bursting into my house.” These were the words of some of the child soldiers. Others explained that they wanted to go because of the lack of food in their families or having no schools to attend. One of the kids said that even though he was under the age limit, they still took him away. Some children have chosen to go because of the problems in these areas.

Poverty is a large reason why children are joining the army. They are being driven from the likes of poverty, alienation, discrimination, and the availability of weapons. Educations in these countries are rare but major. Many others are taken away from their families and some are recruited from second countries. Some schools in these areas are even teaching military combat to students. Is there a solution to this problem?

Children shouldn’t be treated like or be a soldier, these kids could be getting and education. We shouldn’t attack this problem with violence, instead with by donations or even encouraging others or possibly your government to monitor the situation. A problem like this is no game; there isn’t any end for these children apart from death.

The Reef Crisis

Have you ever wondered what it would be like not being able to explore what is beneath us? Coral reefs are being threatened by human activities and other problems that involve us. I think that people should realize what they are doing to ruin these natural beauties of the ocean. Even if we aren’t doing things to hurt the coral reefs, we should still try and help prevent them from happening.

Coral reefs are important to the lives and worlds of many fish and plants.
The coral reefs that are being harmed and killed because of us have a twenty percent chance of recovering. Underwater rocks in the Caribbean are dying because of over-fishing and oil spills. This goes for coral reefs around the world. About ten percent of the world’s reefs are destroyed because of humans. This percentage should rise by about 30% in the next twenty years, if we keep this up. More than half the coral reefs are at risk of dying because of accidents that we don’t know we cause. Problems that are putting the reefs at risk are over-fishing, oil spills, and more. How would you feel if our homes and lives were being destroyed? Would you feel sad? Angry?

People should notice what they are doing to harm the homes of many sea creatures. To help the coral reefs, you can join the Coral Reef Alliance Organization, a non-profit organization to help the coral reefs, and pay attention when fishing or working. Coral reefs have been here since dinosaur times so let’s keep them here try to keep them here until eternity.

Child Soldiering

Did you know that children are used as human lab rats? There are 300,000 total children at war in 30 countries. They are used to test for land mines, used as messengers, and spies. The worst part of all is that the lowest current age is 7. It is normally an option to go to war, but these children are kidnapped and sent to go to war. Do you see something wrong with that? Well I do and I think that needs to stop.

At the time 300,000 people at war are at an age lower than 18. The least fortunate are used as mine detectors and are killed. There are multiple cruel things are happening to these children such as adults at war placing child soldiers on the frontline while at war because they are “useless” and uncared for. Some children at war may think they’re lucky because they didn’t die as soon but in those eastern parts of the world there is no lucky way out of it. You never get to go home and see your family and even if you would be allowed to you probably would have died before you got the opportunity. What can we do to help?

The lab rats forced into war with no rights and cruelly treated. There is an international child welfare organization that helps children in need, and you can join if you want to help. A child soldier named Charles was scared of dying. If commoners found out, he would be killed then and there. So he went to war and for what? To be killed because just like all of the other children, he was scared.

Child Soldiering

Child Soldering

Imagine your son or daughter with a gun fighting on the frontline or spying, how would this make you feel? In Africa, Europe, and Asia they are recruiting children for soldiers, sexual slaves, human land mine detectors and more. This is horrible because you are just taking children away from their families, friends, and an education.

Africa has already recruited 120,000 children for soldiers. That’s like making children kill an entire army or letting an army kill children. As well they capture and bring them to different provinces to train and become a warrior. What they do is, they grab them, throw them in a van, and drive them away. If the army has to retreat then the kids stay and fight. That’s like killing a kid or making him or her kill someone.

So that’s worse than them not having an education, them living in poverty or not having much money. If you want to protect your child and other children in these countries you can start a group to ban child soldering, encourage others about banning this problem, or asking your government to monitor this situation. It’s your choice. Remember it’s your son or daughter with a gun, fighting on the frontline.

Guns for Tots

Have you ever wondered what it is like to be in the military? Well many children around the world are being forced to join when they are 10 years old or even younger! In many foreign countries children are taken to join government run armies. I feel like this is terrible and is considered child labor and needs to be stopped as soon as possible.

Child soldiering is terrible for many reasons like the following. Every day many kids are being recruited and more than 300,000 kids under the age of 18 have been in combat. They use kids for jobs like sentries, spies, and soldiers. More than 40 countries (mostly areas like Central America, South America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Asia) use child soldiers. Many of these countries have the legal limit to be in the military under the age of 10. It is sad because these kids are being forced out of their homes to wield Ak-47s and M-16s on the front lines of combat. They are being used like slaves by their own country.

Just thinking about this makes me sick. These children are dying from malnutrition and battles. Could you imagine yourself like that? There is something you can do to help. Many organizations are against this and you could donate to them. Those kids are learning what war is like when they are just too young. These children along with many other people think this is horrible.

Difference is Good, Not Bad

Imagine, every year, 50,000 more plant and animal species disappear from the earth forever. Biodiversity can be as simply explained as the different species of plants and animals. A commonly known problem is that many of these differences are disappearing, everyday. While humans are destroying habitats for the benefit of man kind in the present, it may have disastrous effects later in our lives, and this needs to stop while we can do something about it.

As man destroys biodiversity, there are many side effects that come with it. Everyday, nearly 137 species go extinct. This means that the plants can’t recycle air or purify water. Some plants may even be needed to make the vaccine for a currently unknown disease. Some of those animals could give scientists an idea that will improve our lives dramatically. As well, the difference between two species may make one immune to a disease, but went extinct due to human development. For example, if a disease wipes out one animal humans rely on, the animal that is immune to that disease could help us in a similar manner, but it would be gone because of human development. Did you know an ecosystem is a balance between two or more plants and animals? If one species goes extinct, this will affect all the rest of the ecosystem. This can set off a chain reaction that affects others life forms as well. This can affect our ecosystem as well, and can quite possibly change our day to day life style, as well as the cost, types of, and the quality of the types of meat available to us. This is clearly a disastrous problem that must be stopped.
Biodiversity is important to protect, because in a perfectly balanced ecosystem, every plant and animal relies on each other for survival. Some ways of stopping the extinction that is happening, is in what you buy at the grocery store. For example, purchasing organic produce will cut down the amount of inorganic pesticides sprayed on the fields. To help control overfishing, look for fish that is Marine Stewardship Council certified, so a fish that is going down in population doesn’t end up as your lunch. A lot of pollution is produced in growing cattle, so avoiding beef is also a good idea. If biodiversity isn’t protected, it can have a disastrous effect on the planet, and the overall health of human beings.

H20 Needed in Africa

Imagine having to take a 90 second shower or having to drink dirty water filled with bacteria and parasites. Most people can’t even imagine having to do that but people in Africa do that everyday. Over one billion people lack access to safe water and over 2.2 million people, mostly children die each day because of unsafe water. We can’t relate to this issue because we can always get clean water but people in Africa can die just by drinking water. We need to help this
disaster because humans should not be dying from just drinking H20.

Since most people in Africa find there liquid life source from rivers they consume many harmful bacteria and chemicals. Drinking this can cause deadly diseases and diarrhea. Also it carries water based hosts such as the guinea worms. Climate change is contributing to the water crisis. Natural disasters such as floods or droughts both have a negative impact on water resources causing thirst or death from contaminated water. Water shortages are affecting people also. Because of droughts and reproduction there’s not enough water for everybody, causing death to many people. It is obvious to see that this is a major problem.

Considering this issue we need to care about these people. We can’t ignore this situation, people die everyday because of unsafe water, and people will continue to die if we don’t help them. You can help by donating water filters or clean water. If you can’t imagine having to take a shower so short that you could only get wet or having to drink murky water we can’t let people in Africa
have to suffer, so do your part and help.

the environment

Imagine looking outside and seeing no trees, or plants. This is what the world will look like if we keep harming the environment. The environment is disappearing all around us, and we are the cause of this environmental disaster. Environmental destruction needs to be stopped before it gets to far out of hand, and the image becomes a reality. We need an end to all this nonsense and start using our heads instead of using bulldozers.

Most forests are being destroyed and are disappearing right before our eyes. This disappearing act is taking a major amount of the environment away with it. Already half of the forest that once covered 46% of the earth’s surface has been destroyed, only leaving 23% left. This means that at this rate there won’t be anything left of the environment if we keep destroying it. Extinction rate is higher then ever and still continues to increase daily. The environment is home to a large amount of animals, it’s where they live, and find food. But now that we are taking their homes to build our own, the extinction rate is 1000 times faster then the natural rate of extinction. This means that there are less animals and plants to provide us with necessary recourses. Everyday the human population increases demanding the necessity of more resources. These resources are used to build homes and buildings, but because these resources come from the environment, and are causing us to destroy the environment more then it already is.

Before the environment disappears, we must do something to stop it. To help the environment we can buy energy efficient appliances, or we can buy recyclable grocery bags. Next time you see a recyclable grocery bag think about buying one instead of using plastic bags. The little things you do to go green can help the environment grow back little by little and soon we can call this disappearing act something no one will want to remember.
